Biography and exhibition history

Eric (b. 1971, Hobart, Australia) is a Melbourne-based contemporary artist whose practice explores the relationship between inner experience and outward form. Working across painting, sculpture and photomedia, he investigates how identity, vulnerability and human presence become visible through the material qualities of images and objects.

Centred on the human figure, his work occupies the threshold between interior and exterior, presence and absence, clarity and ambiguity. Through layered surfaces, damaged photographs, casting, drapery and painterly transformation, Eric uses material processes to reveal what is often concealed, creating works that invite viewers to reflect on the fragile relationship between the body, the self and the ways we encounter one another.

Eric has exhibited at Huw Davies Gallery in Canberra and Brunswick Street Gallery in Melbourne. He was a finalist in the INPRINT Photography Award presented by Beautiful Bizarre magazine and undertook an artist residency at APG Works in Sheffield, United Kingdom. His work is held in private collections.
