In 2024, Eric had the privilege of participating in the APGWorks artist-in-residence program, an opportunity that allowed him to refine and experiment with traditional serigraphy processes. Held in Sheffield, United Kingdom, this residency focused on pushing the boundaries of standard printmaking techniques, aligning with Eric’s ongoing interest in challenging established norms within artistic processes.
During the residency, Eric created Figure Study #1, a print that captured the organic evolution of an image kept ’live’ throughout the printmaking process. Using charcoal and reclaimed paper while avoiding digital tools, each step in the serigraphy process altered the image, meaning its final form was not realized until editioning. While this approach introduced unpredictability, it also imbued the work with a unique character aligned with Eric’s aesthetic.
Eric now returns to Australia, where his focus shifts to preparing for his next exhibition. This residency has reaffirmed the importance of experimentation in his practice and its potential to yield unexpected and rewarding outcomes.
