Eric was selected to exhibit in the View 2020 group exhibition showcasing future leaders in photomedia practice from around the ACT and surrounding regions.
In this work ‘Depths’, Eric explores the overwhelming darkness brought about by the by the technological gifts that modern society offers. Knowingly taking and becoming addicted to these tools, which pressure us to perform and conform, we are overwhelmed with impossible ideals to aspire to. Ultimately failure becomes our only norm and our abilities to build rituals and habits to protect ourselves now plunge us further into the darkness of our own psyches.
Developing this concept, Eric worked on the streets of Sydney Australia, deliberately slowing the process of capturing candid images in an attempt to expose the obscured energies of a scene that would otherwise be lost. The scale of the final print was used to amplify the blurring swirl of this busy district as an analogy of the overwhelming flow of information in our lives.
